The Children Spectator

During the October 2021 edition of Visioni, the 3rd edition of the exhibition "The Children-Spectators” will be open to the public.
The initiative is part of the European project “Mapping. A map on the aesthetics of performing arts for early years”.
Thanks to the partnership with BolognaFiere / Bologna Children's Book Fair, 584 illustrators from 61 Countries took part in the 2021 edition.
The exhibition presents 35 illustrations by 35 illustrators from 20 Countries.
The Jury - made up of Roberto Frabetti (Teatro Testoni – La Baracca, Jury Chairman), Giorgia Grilli (University of Bologna), Giulia Orecchia (illustrator) and Maurizio Quarello (illustrator, Macerata Academy) selected 35 illustrations from 20 countries and regions, namely Argentina, Brazil, China, Colombia, Ecuador, Hungary, Iran, Ireland, Italy, Malaysia, Peru, Poland, Russia, South Korea, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, United Kingdom, USA.
The winners will be automatically candidates to be part of the large itinerant exhibition marking the conclusion of the “Mapping” project, organised by several institutions, and including a selection of the most interesting illustrations making up the annual “Children-Spectators” Exhibitions, together with the illustrations of the four artists invited to collaborate with the research project’s various working groups. After showing at the 2023 Bologna Children’s Book Fair, the exhibition will then tour the partner cities during the international 2023 Season Festivals.
Mapping - a Map on the aesthetics of performing arts for early years is an artistic research project focused on creating a sensory-based relationship with very young children, from 0 to 6 years, through performing arts. In particular, it explores the idea of “children-spectators”. Spectators of today, and not only of tomorrow. The full partners are 18 and come from 17 countires: the partership covers a wide geographical area of the European Union, with no regional characterisation.
